The Bundaberg Region is experiencing significant impacts from the March 2026 flood event.

The following FAQ provides information about local support, services and recovery resources available to residents.

Where can I find official health and safety advice when dealing with flood water and related hazards?

Council’s Flood recovery webpage (under Health and safety) provides links to official health and safety information to help residents understand the risks associated with floodwater, contamination and waste management. These resources offer clear guidance to support safe recovery activities in and around your home.

Where can I find information about safely re entering my home or building?

If you’ve been evacuated after a disaster, take safety precautions when returning home to protect your health. The same steps apply when re‑entering any building affected by storms, cyclones or flood. Council has provided a Returning to a disaster-affected house or building factsheet.

How do I check current road closures and conditions?

Residents can access live updates on road conditions through Council’s Disaster Dashboard.

How do I check current power outages?

Is there a list of community support services available in the region?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services for the Bundaberg Region. Residents can use this brochure to find information and contact details for key community services that may assist them and their families.

What in-person support is available for flood recovery services?

Community Recovery Hubs are open in Bundaberg West and Bundaberg North for residents who need help applying for assistance, can’t access online services or require emotional or wellbeing support after the floods.

Where can I access mental health or wellbeing services?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services which offers mental health and wellbeing support. This brochure provides direct pathways to services that can assist residents with their emotional and psychological recovery.

What support is available if my family is experiencing stress or relationship difficulties after the floods?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services which relates to family and relationship support. Residents can use this brochure to find services that help families navigate challenges during recovery.

Where can I get help if I’m feeling stressed or struggling to cope after the floods?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services relating to stress management and wellbeing. This brochure provides contact details for services that support emotional recovery.

What help is available if my home is damaged or I need temporary housing?

Council’s Flood recovery, Financial assistance page includes information relating to emergency relief and temporary housing assistance.

Where can I access legal or advocacy support after the floods?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services relating to legal and advocacy assistance.

Will my bin collection be affected?

Kerbside bin collections may be affected during the recovery period. For the latest service updates, please visit Council’s Waste and recycling page.

Are the waste facilities still operating as usual?

Waste facility opening times may vary following the flood event. Current operating hours are available on the Waste and recycling page.

What do I do with any flood damaged items?

Information about kerbside collection and disposal options for flood‑damaged items is available on the Waste and recycling page.

Will there be service disruptions due to road closures?

If your bin service has been disrupted, alternative disposal options are outlined on the Waste and recycling page.

What do I do if my bin was lost or damaged during the flood?

If your bin has been lost or damaged during the floods, contact Bundaberg Regional Council on 1300 883 699 to arrange a replacement.

How do I dispose of hazardous materials?

Hazardous waste including chemicals, batteries, anything containing a battery, paint, gas (LPG) bottles, oil, asbestos, explosives, ammunition will not be collected as part of kerbside collection and must be taken to a waste facility for free disposal. Tyres are ineligible for kerbside collection and free waste disposal.

Where can I find advice on dealing with mould, contamination or unsafe materials after flooding?

Council’s Flood recovery, Health and safety page links to official environmental health guidance to help residents safely manage contamination risks during flood recovery.

Is there assistance if I’m experiencing financial hardship as a result of the flood?

The Queensland Government has activated State and Commonwealth personal hardship grants for targeted areas within the Local Government Area. See the Community recovery factsheet for more information.

Check if your area is eligible for financial assistance (the areas are listed under the ‘Bundaberg Regional Local Government Area - defined localities’ drop down.)

Council’s Flood recovery, Financial assistance page also offers support options for residents affected by the floods including a Financial Assistance Information Sheet and an application for financial hardship relief.

These resources are designed to assist ratepayers who may be having difficulty paying their rates due to hardship and to encourage early access to support services.

What do I do if I can't pay my rates?

If you’re unable to pay your rates, Council encourages you to set up a payment commitment through our website here. If no payment arrangement is made, your account may be referred to Council’s external debt recovery specialists: Recoveries & Reconstruction.

What support is available if my employment or income has been affected by the floods?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services relating to employment and income support. This brochure provides information on services that can assist residents experiencing financial or work‑related impacts.

Where can businesses or primary producers find support after the floods?

The Queensland Government has provided a downloadable list of Regional Community Support Services relating to business and primary producer assistance. 

Are there disaster grants and loans?

The Albanese and Crisafulli Governments have activated Disaster Recovery Grants and low interest loans for more flooded primary producers and small businesses. Grant and loan applications can be made via the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority website while information on freight subsidies is available through Queensland’s Department of Primary Industries on 13 25 23.

How do I make sure my builder is licensed?

Visit Council’s Flood recovery, Repairing damage page to access the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) online licence search. You can quickly confirm if a contractor is properly licensed before any work begins. 

Where can I get advice on avoiding scams?

Financial assistance for eligible areas

Personal hardship financial assistance is available for Queensland communities impacted by Tropical Low 29U and related flooding March 2026 in defined local government areas.

Disaster Recovery Grants

The Albanese and Crisafulli Governments have activated Disaster Recovery Grants and low interest loans for more flooded primary producers and small businesses. You can check your eligibility for disaster grants and loans via the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority website or by calling 1800 623 946.

Applications for Small Business Recovery Assistance Grants will be opened via the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business.

This support is in addition to the previously announced joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), which have been activated across 59 Local Government Areas.

Information on freight subsidies is available through Queensland’s Department of Primary Industries on 13 25 23.

Immediate assistance available for impacted sport and racing clubs in Bundaberg

Grants of up to $5,000 at the ready through the Crisafulli Government’s Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program to aid immediate clean-up efforts. Additional relief available for racing participants through Racing Queensland’s Training Assistance Fund.

Are you a business affected by the recent flooding?

To help the Queensland Government understand the extent of impacts and identify what support is needed, we strongly encourage any affected businesses to complete the Natural Disaster Impact Survey available on the Business Queensland website. Your input is essential in shaping the support programs that may be made available to our region.

Are you a primary producer affected by the recent flooding?

The Department of Primary Industries asks you to complete this Disaster Impact Survey for Queensland Primary Producers if you are a primary producer or in the fishing industry and your business has been impacted by a recent disaster event. If you have multiple locations that were impacted, please complete one survey for each location by clicking the link provided or by visiting the Department of Primary Industries website.

Are you a non-for-profit organisations affected by the recent flooding?

Queensland non-profit organisations impacted during disaster events should visit the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority for more information.  For non-profit organisations | Queensland Rural and Industry

Important Note: It is recommended to take date stamped photos and keep a detailed record of any flood impacted property prior to commencing cleanup. This may help with any insurance claims or disaster recovery funding applications you may be eligible for.

Regional Business HQ and their co-working space, The Generator are opening their spaces for our local business community. If your workplace has been impacted by the recent floods and you need a temporary space to get back up and running to use during the recovery period.
