As defined on the National Native Title Tribunal website, an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) is a voluntary agreement between a native title group and others about the use of land and waters. These agreements allow people to negotiate flexible, pragmatic agreements to suit their particular circumstances.
Council has been involved in negotiations to establish an ILUA with the Port Curtis Coral Coast (PCCC) people. The ILUA covers a large part of our Regional Council area and parts of the North Burnett and Gladstone Regional Council areas.
The ILUA has been signed by all parties and was registered on May 3rd, 2018. A formal signing/acknowledgement ceremony of the ILUA was held on November 29th, 2016.
