Skip bins - dos and don'ts

Skip bins are convenient for householders, building sites and other commercial operators to dispose of bulk waste.

Please see below a general guideline of Skip Bin – Dos and Don’ts:

Permitted waste

  • General waste (including furniture and plastics)
  • Green waste 
  • Concrete and bricks
  • Construction waste (tiles, pavers, plaster, timber, building waste)
  • Clean soil / dirt
Declared waste
  • Asbestos (in accordance with disposal guidelines)
  • Tyres (extra charges apply)
  • E-Waste
  • Fridges / freezer / aircons
  • Bagged dusty materials (eg sawdust)

Prohibited waste

  • Liquid wastes (eg paint, oil & chemicals)
  • Hazardous goods (eg gas bottles & batteries)
  • Clinical waste 
  • Explosives (eg flares, ammunition, fireworks etc)

Should prohibited items or UNDECLARED Permitted Waste be found amongst your skip bin contents when emptied at a Council Waste Facility, you may be liable to pay additional disposal costs; and/or be required to remove the contaminated waste load at your expense.
