Council acts in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) when handling personal information (including the collection, use, security and disclosure of such information). For the purposes of this statement, personal information refers to any information that may enable the identification of an individual visitor to the website.

Information Collected

Council’s website is monitored to identify areas of interest to visitors, to continually improve your experience. For statistical and site design purposes, we make a record of your visit in log files contained on the server. The information we collect is usually in the form of "cookies".

The information we collect on site visits include:

  • your server address; 
  • your top level domain name (e.g .com, .gov, .au, .org etc.);
  • the date and time of your visit to our website;
  • the pages you access and files you download;
  • the previous site visited;
  • your browser type;
  • time spent on individual pages and the site overall.

This information will not be used in any way to identify an individual user and will only be stored in the event that you voluntarily provide it to us, such as making an online payment, the completion of an online survey or form, by submitting an email enquiry or maintenance request. This information will be used for the purpose for which it was provided and will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent or if authorised or required by law.

Online Surveys

Council uses third party service providers to facilitate online surveys. When you participate in online survey, we may collect a variety of information including your name, contact information, postal address and opinion. Your personal information will be transferred and held in servers outside of Australia if you choose to participate in the survey online.

This site is intended to provide general information only. Although Council takes care in producing the content for its websites, no warranty is given that the information contained within our sites is accurate, complete, or current, or that the data on the site is free from defects or malicious code such as viruses. Accuracy of the information published on our websites should be verified prior to use.

Website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics (including Display Advertising Features) to gather anonymous information about visitors to help us monitor and improve the website. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies and JavaScript code to gather information about how visitors use the site. For example, number of visitors, browser information, pages viewed, IP address and demographic information. The information will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers primarily in the United States. 

This data is used by Bundaberg Regional Council to analyse how visitors use the website to improve your user experience.

You can choose not to allow Google to collect your information by opting out of Google Analytics or specifically opt out of Google Analytics Display Advertiser Features

In addition, the website uses Facebook Pixels to tailor content specifically for you within Facebook and measure the success of campaigns. Facebook Pixels use cookies, JavaScript code, web beacons and similar technologies to gather information. No personally identifiable information is shared with us by Facebook. The information will be transmitted to and stored by Facebook on servers in the United States. You can choose to opt out of tailored content through your Facebook settings.

In accordance with our Privacy Policy, Council does not collect or keep any personally identifiable information, nor track visits to any non-Council websites.

Access to your personal information

You can apply for access to documents held by the Council containing your personal information, under the Right to Information Act 2009, or via Council’s Administrative Access SchemeFurther information can be found on our Right to Information webpage.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information, or you believe Council has breached your privacy, please provide details in writing via:

Council will:

  • acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 10 business days; and
  • provide an outcome following a review or investigation within 45 business days.
