Bundaberg Jobs Commitment

Overview

Bundaberg Regional Council proudly delivers The Bundaberg Jobs Commitment, an initiative that connects young people with local industries, employers, education providers and community partners.

Originally developed in response to the region’s high youth disengagement and unemployment rates in 2020, the initiative has evolved into a strategic workforce development program focused on engagement, inspiration and ongoing support for young people across the Bundaberg Region.

The Bundaberg Jobs Commitment helps students explore local career pathways, gain valuable workplace insights and make informed decisions about their futures.

Through meaningful industry engagement, hands-on experiences and connections with local employers, the program supports the development of a skilled, job-ready workforce while showcasing the diverse career opportunities available within the region.

Built around four key pillars, the program engages more than 5,000 students annually:

  • Expose: Introducing young people to employers, industries, and the world of work.
  • Experience: Providing opportunities for students to gain firsthand workplace experiences.
  • Immerse: Delivering high-impact, immersive experiences that inspire future career decisions.
  • Launch: Equipping young people with the skills, tools and confidence to begin their careers.

By fostering workforce awareness and strengthening connections between education and industry, the Bundaberg Jobs Commitment is helping to build a strong, skilled, and sustainable workforce for the future of the Bundaberg Region.

School Engagements

School Engagements connect students with local industries through presentations, career talks and industry-led discussions delivered directly in schools across the Bundaberg Region.

Delivered in partnership with employers, industry representatives and education providers, these sessions give students valuable insights into local career opportunities, emerging workforce trends and the skills needed for future employment. By linking classroom learning with real-world career pathways, School Engagements help young people make informed decisions about their education and future careers.

The program helps students to:

  • Explore career pathways – discover opportunities across a range of industries and occupations.
  • Understand local employment opportunities – learn about jobs and industries that are growing in the Bundaberg Region.
  • Hear from industry professionals – gain firsthand insights from people working in the field.
  • Build confidence for the future – better understand post-school education, training, and employment options.

Immersion Days

Immersion Days provide students with firsthand experiences in local workplaces, giving them the opportunity to explore industries and careers beyond the classroom.

By visiting businesses and organisations across the region, students gain practical insights into workplace environments, industry expectations and career pathways. These hands-on experiences help bring career options to life and support informed decision-making about future study and employment opportunities.

Immersion Days provide:

  • Workplace exposure – experience real working environments and day-to-day operations.
  • Industry connections – engage directly with employers, professionals and mentors.
  • Career exploration – learn about a variety of occupations and industries operating in the region.
  • Practical career insights – develop a stronger understanding of workplace expectations and future opportunities.

Together, School Engagements and Immersion Days help inspire the next generation of workers by strengthening connections between education, industry and local career opportunities.
