Wild Clay Workshop - Made of Bundaberg (literally!)

Join the Art and Pottery Studio crew at a hands-on workshop for curious makers wanting to connect their air with our Bundaberg environment.

Over 4 hours, you'll learn how 8 wild-coloured clays have been sourced from across the region and processed for ceramics making.

You'll shape wild clays to expand your creative and experimental practice using hand-building techniques and create nerikomi (layered) pieces ready for kiln firing. 

From 9 am to 1 pm, you'll learn:

• how wild clays in 8 different colours and textures were ethically and legally foraged from across the Bundaberg region for ceramics making.
• apply hand-building techniques to experiment making different forms with wild clay and learn how to create nerikomi (layered) pieces
• create test pieces and up to 4 small ceramic pieces ready for kiln firing
• blend wild clay with commercial clays to create unique clay bodies*
• equip yourself with the knowledge to continue your wild clay journey in or out of the Studio. 

This workshop is for beginners and seasoned potters wanting to explore exciting new possibilities connecting their art with a sense of place in Bundaberg. We'll be all about experimentation and play with this ancient material, so bring your sense of fun and adventure for a wildly creative morning at the Studio. 

Pieces made at the workshop can be taken home or left for firing and/or glazing at the Studio for later pickup in 3 - 4 weeks.

You can also continue your wild clay journey by joining our Potters Club on Monday or Thursday evenings. 

Please wear clothes that you might wear gardening (i.e. can get muddy and stained).

Participants are advised to let the Studio know if you have any sensitivities to specific mineral contents.

Aprons, nitrile gloves and N95 masks are available as part of the workshop, if required.
