Bundaberg Organic Gardeners Inc
Bundaberg Organic Gardeners Inc, known to locals as BOGI, is a friendly community garden club in Bundaberg that has been helping people grow healthy food using organic principles since 2008.
Our motto is Grow, Learn, Share. Whether you are turning your first vegetable bed or you have been gardening for decades, you are welcome. Beginners and experienced growers sit side by side at every meeting.
Monthly meetings
We meet on the last Tuesday of every month, January to November (no meeting in December) at the Community Centre, 24 Sims Road, Walkervale. Doors open at 6:00 pm, the meeting starts at 6:30 pm, and supper and socialising runs from about 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Guests are always welcome. Just walk in, sign in at the front desk, and pay the guest fee. No booking is required. Fees are $3 for members and $5 for guests.
A typical evening includes an invited guest speaker on a gardening or food topic, a coordinator update on upcoming workshops and garden visits, the veggie challenge where members show off their best produce, an open forum for questions, and a shared supper.
Every meeting also runs a free seeds and plants table, a lucky door prize of members' garden produce, and a herbal tea of the night, often home-grown.
Workshops, garden visits, field trips and working bees
Beyond the monthly meeting, BOGI runs a full calendar of hands-on activities throughout the year. Workshops on seed saving, composting, worm farming, preserving, natural pest management, wicking bed construction and soil health are held at the club venue or at members' homes on weekends.
Garden visits let you see organic principles in action in members' gardens around the Bundaberg region. Field trips travel to farms, nurseries and gardening events across the wider Wide Bay and Queensland region. Working bees bring the group together to help members with bigger garden projects.
Most activities beyond the monthly meeting need registration in advance, because many are held at private homes and we need to send you the address. To register, sign up at the workshop table at any monthly meeting, phone 0493 789 243 or email secretary.bundyorgard@gmail.com.

Our approach
BOGI promotes organic principles without endorsing any particular philosophy, product or practice. We seek and welcome a wide range of opinions, expressed in a civil and tolerant manner, so that members can make up their own minds. By organic principles we mean food grown in soils that are rich in the required minerals, rich in micro-biology, and free of harmful substances.
We are an affiliate of The Garden Clubs of Australia Inc, which has over 700 affiliates and 45,000 members, and carry $20 million in public liability insurance.
