Recycled Water Management Plan - Annual Reports
Since the beginning of 2026, Bundaberg Regional Council no longer has regulated Recycled Water Schemes with the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV).
Recycled water from our Thabeban, Millbank and Rubyanna Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) are used by neighbouring property owners (users), under agreements, for the purpose of irrigating highly processed crops (i.e. sugar cane and macadamia trees). Recycled water quality is regularly monitored and communicated through to the users.
Prior to 2026, the recycled water from Council's Childers WWTP was supplied to a neighbouring property under the regulated Childers Recycled Water Management Plan (RWMP). RWMPs are a documented, risk-based system for managing the production and supply of recycled water. The implementation of a RWMP ensures safe water recycling, through the identification and minimisation of public health risks.
Whilst operating under a regulated scheme, Council was required to prepare an annual report for the Childers scheme to provide DLGWV with information on the overall performance of the recycled water scheme for the year. The annual reports provide an accountability mechanism to users of recycled water and to the general public, as recycled water providers and scheme managers are required to make their annual reports available for public inspection.
The annual reports are prepared in accordance with the Act and relevant DLGWV guidelines, accessible at www.rdmw.qld.gov.au/water.
