Bin Inspection Program - Red Tag

My bin had a red tag, what should I do?

Oh no! A red tag means your bin was not serviced because it contained too many incorrect items or was not presented for collection correctly. To make sure your bin is serviced in the future, read the below tips to improve your waste and recycling habits.

If the tag was on your:

 

Recycling bin (yellow lid)

If the tag says:

It contained incorrect items - In future, place any incorrect items mentioned on your tag in the correct bin.

It was not presented correctly - For future services, ensure your bin is:

  • Placed at least 0.5 m away from other bins
  • At least 1 m away from other objects (trees, cars, letterboxes, etc.)
  • Weighs less than 75 kg (no building materials, etc.)
  • Is not overfilled and lid is closed

Share this information with your household and inspect the bin’s contents before the next service. Dispose of the tag in your general waste bin.

If you often run out of space in your recycle bin, households can opt in for a second bin at a discounted rate. Contact Council on 1300 883 699 for more information.

If you would like your bin to be emptied before the next service, remove any incorrect items and consider:

  • Applying for a one off, unscheduled bin service by completing the Missed Scheduled Bin Collection Payment form here or calling Council on 1300 883 699 
  • Taking the bin to a Council waste facility to be emptied

If the tag says:

It contained incorrect items - In future, place any incorrect items mentioned on your tag in the correct bin or dispose of at a Council waste facility.

These items go in your yellow lid recycle bin.

These items are hazardous or recyclable and need to be taken to a Council waste facility for disposal.

  • Batteries, gas bottles, mattresses
  • Asbestos products
  • Chemicals, oils, paints
  • Renovation or construction waste
  • Electrical items

FOGO bins are currently only located within the designated trial area. If the tag says:

It contained incorrect items - In future, place any incorrect items mentioned on your tag in the correct bin or dispose of at a Council waste facility.
