Land protection

General biosecurity obligation

Land protection officers are responsible for co-ordinating the control, monitoring and reporting of invasive pests and the enforcement of the Biosecurity Act 2014 on behalf of Council. Officers work closely with landholders to assist them with advice and resources to reduce invasive plants and animals.

While officers are responsible to manage invasive species under the Biosecurity Act 2014 the Act requires everyone in the community to minimise the risks associated with invasive plants and animals under their control. This is called a general biosecurity obligation (GBO).
