Fitness class descriptions

 

BodyPump - Body Pump - is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 55-minute workout challenges your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls . Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weights inspire you to get the results you came for - and fast!).

BoxFit - Boxfit is a cardiovascular workout with classes lasting between 45 mins to one hour. It is based on the training used for boxing so it includes skipping, boxing drills, noodle boxing including footwork and abdominal workouts – all focusing on functional fitness and toning.

BST (Beginner Strength Training) - If you’re looking to get great strength results without putting so much pressure on your joints or tendons, then low-impact strength training is the ideal choice. Low-impact strength training is an effective way to work on your strength without adding extra stress on our joints and tendons. Perfect for those wanting to improve cardiovascular endurance, kinesthetic awareness, reduce risk of disease and other health coniditions, improve bone denisty, congntion and stress. Classes will include use of light weights, bands and balls. Please bring a mat and drink bottle.

Cardio Tennis - Tennis Australia Qualified coaches, your session will bring together a variety of cardio workouts and tennis drills, all to a high-energy soundtrack.

Clubbercise - Is a fun full body workout with a banging soundtrackthat gets great results. The routines combine dance, toning, and combat moves with options to suit all fitness levels.

CSR (Cardio / Strength / Resistance) – A well rounded full body class designed to increase your heart rate and increase your overall strength and fitness, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Disco Boxing – is a non-contact high and low intensity aerobic workout using boxing at it's core. Fun training to music and disco lights to keep your heart rate up.

GS (Gentle Stretch) – Safe low impact stretches designed to increase your range of movement and reduce muscle tension and strains.

H20 - A variety of fitness activities undertaken in our local swimming pools (Water fitness, water aerobics). H2O classes are free, however standard pool entry fees are applicable upon entry.

L1ft - L1FT workouts involve high repetitions (not counted but timed) of relatively low weights, which reduces the chance of injury but still allows you to access the many benefits of resistance training. Helps build lean muscle (burn more calories!!), protect and strengthen the joints, reduce your chances of injury or joint issues as you age, shape, tone and strengthen your body.

Mindful Movement (Qigong) – .In each session we will develop our mindfulness skills through focusing on our body and then our environment. Mindfulness is being present in the moment is a wonderful way to enhance our health and wellbeing. The movements will be of a low to medium intensity, with participants encouraged to move within their comfort zone. Join in for a fun, light hearted and relaxing self-care moment. You deserve it! Please wear cool, comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking and gentle exercise plus bring a water bottle.

mSwing – Uses a single dumbbell and natural, flowing movements to provide a fun, challenging and effective workout.

Neon Aerials Circuit – Increase your fitness, strength, stamina and have fun utilising aerial apparatus in a circuit style class at The Neon Loft studio (silks, hammocks, lyra hoop, and poles).

parkrun – A collection of 5-kilometre (3.1 mi) events for walkers, runners and volunteers that take place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 22 countries across five continents.

Pickleball – Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton & ping-pong.

Pound Rock– Instead of listening to the music, you BECOME the music in this exhilarating full body workout, which combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and pilates inspired movement - all while using RIPSTIX (lightly weighted drumsticks).

Pilates – Is an effective series of low wimpact exercises using your body weight as resistance. The full body workout focuses on strengthening your core muscles to improve posture and strength.

Quick Start Tennis - Is an excellent pathway to playing social tennis. Learn game skills, improve your health and fitness, socialise and have fun.

Reformer Pilates - Is a method of exercise using the Pilates Reformer machine which adds resistance to the exercises and is generally more intense and dynamic than mat pilates.

Strength & Stretch - Stretch & Strength - covering a mixture of strength training and yoga exercises.  Strength and Resistance training could include use of weights and bands and within a circuit set-up – most likely 40 seconds on and 20 seconds off as many repeats as possible within this time.  Yoga / stretch sections could include a 5 minute meditation, usually a guided body meditation. Strength would be 25 mins with warm up and 20 mins of yoga with meditation.

Tai chi – A series of gentle physical exercises and stretches.

Yoga – A gentle way to improve your posture, balance, flexibility and coordination.

Important information

Bundaberg Regional Council supports recommendations that participants:

  • Drink an adequate amount of water while exercising. Take a water bottle along to every BABA session attended to ensure adequate hydration while exercising. Water is recommended for low intensity exercise up to or less than 1 hour (Nutrition Australia). 
  • Be SunSmart while participating in BABA exercise sessions. Wear a hat, apply sunscreen and seek shade.
  • Bring a towel or exercise / yoga mat depending on the type of class you are attending.

About the program

Initiated by Bundaberg Regional Council in 2012, the award-winning free parks and pools program was commenced with the help of State Government funding.

The program continues to be developed and refined under Council's 'Healthy and Active' charter to provide an inclusive mix of activities across our region's parks, pools and open spaces.

Fitness class types are dependant on fitness provider registrations.
