Community Development Strategy

Local communities grow stronger and flourish, when people can have their say and participate in creating a community where everyone contributes, matters and belongs.

Council adopted the Community Development Strategy 2020 - 2023, which served as a roadmap for community growth and inclusiveness for the past three years.

The Community Development team is currently developing the 2023 - 2027 Community Development Strategy.

The strategy seeks to approach the complex task of uncovering what matters to you, by consulting with individuals, groups, clubs and organisations, government, non-government, not for profit, businesses, families, youth, seniors, culturally diverse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, residents, visitors and tourists; identifying priorities, ideas, insights, gaps and barriers.

The highlights of the Strategy and the key priority areas and outcomes that the Community Development team will work with the community on, are:

  • Inclusiveness
  • Participation
  • Accessibility
  • Connectivity

The strategy will guide the team to develop and create opportunities to participate, socially and professionally, to provide safe and accessible spaces in order to grow social connections. The strategy provides a roadmap to work with the community to facilitate connectivity through referrals, events and content to educate, upskill, partner, listen actively and, most of all, connect.
