Margaret Olsen Place

Council owns and operates two Seniors Community Housing Facilities - the Margaret Olsen Place units in Dr Mays Road, Bundaberg and the Kolan Centenary Seniors Village in Tirroan Road, Gin Gin.

These properties can be accessed by eligible tenants 55 years and over.

Council currently does not have any other form of housing, rental accommodation or crisis housing.

The Margaret Olsen Place facility has 48 units and a recreation room for use by the village residents and well maintained gardens in a peaceful setting.

Margaret Olsen Place has easy access to public transport.

The complex provides independent living units and operates under provisions of the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Act 2008. Council does not provide in-home care to the residents.

The independent units are classified as long term community housing, with the Queensland Department of Housing managing the wait list for potential residents. When a vacancy occurs at the facility, Council notifies the Department of Housing. That agency then provides Council with a short-list of applicants with high need for housing accommodation. A new tenant is then selected on the basis of highest need and personal circumstances.

Council maintains all buildings lawns and gardens.
