Childers Streetscape

Stage 6 - Reconstruction of Childers Streetscape is now complete.  The reconstruction works have significantly improved the functionality and safety of the business area for both motorists and pedestrians.  The transformation both sides of Churchill Street at the northern end of town provides the missing link to a streetscape project that commenced nearly 15 years ago.  Completion of the Childers Streetscape Project has further enhanced the amenity and liveability of this town.

The Childers Streetscape (Stage 6) is a joint initiative of Bundaberg Regional Council and the Queensland Government.

Stage 6 - Reconstruction of Childers Streetscape continues on Churchill Street, north from McIlwraith Street.
The project will be undertaken in two parts and includes removal of current footpath material and pacement of pavers and exposed aggregate concrete to match existing lvels and other sections of new streetscape for Childers.  The project will provide new linemarking, asphalt pavement, planting of gardens and placement of footpath furniture including the installation of handrails for the disabled access ramp to Childers Swimming Pool.

Now that Site 1: North-Crescent Streets of Stage 5 of the Childers Streetscape Project has been completed, Council has continued its construction activities to Site 2: Churchill Street Service Lane in front of the Isis Club and Cane Growers.  The upgrade works will continue the current theme offering improved civil works and landscape beautification and will be completed in the coming months.

Council would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation during this time.  For more information please view the Notice of Works below or contact the Project Engineer, Tony Wright on 1300 883 699.

Childers Streetscape - Notice of Works April 2013 - Rescheduled

The former Isis Shire Council commenced an ambitious upgrade to the Childers CBD with delivery of works staged in intervals over the last decade.  Several stages have been completed, transorming the streescape to recapture it's heritage features coupled with modern day characteristics.  This has greatly benefited the local community through enhanced functionality and safety, while also assisting the local economy with additional appeal for travellers and tourists to enjoy the offerings of this heritage town on the National Highway.

Significant community consultation was undertaken in the development of initial stages which has provided great pride in its achievements.  Through the continued beautification of the Streetscape it will aid the already attractive appeal of this community's CBD with works also further assisting to provide safe, functioning and disabled compliant access for pedestrians and vehicles to services.

The design of the next stages have been developed in accordance with the various governing regulations and road standards as well as to afford a continuation of previous stages.  Significant consultation with Childers based Council engineering and parks officers occurred in their development to ensure the materials, plants and street furniture acknowledged lessons learnt from previous stages.

Works are expected to commence in earnest February 2013 with some preparation activities occurring earlier.  Council's District Engineer Tony Wright, will deliver the works programme and his detailed knowledge of earlier construction stages will be a tremendous benefit to the project.  While there will be some disruptions for vehicles and pedestrians during construction, these will be minimised where possible and access to services will be maintained.  As activities advance Council will provide updates to the Community through effective communication.
