Fun run to celebrate Youth Month in splash of colour

13 Feb 2017
Clouds of chalk will colour the Gin Gin community happy on April 3 with a fun run event held as part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s Youth Month program.

Community and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said registration was now open for the event.

“The Colour Me Happy Fun Run will track through Gin Gin State Primary School and will see entrants walk or run through clouds of colour powder to the tune of a local DJ,” Cr Peters said.

“The race entry fee is $15 which provides all entrants with a race pack that includes one white shirt, a pair of sunglasses, one bag of coloured powder and an entry in to the race entrant prize draw. The white shirt is, of course, the most essential part of the day’s outfit to provide a blank canvas to plaster with plenty of colour!”

Cr Peters said the fun run would be followed by the #4671 Jam from 11.30am at the Gin Gin Skate Park.

“The Jam event is free to attend and will feature music, competitions and demonstrations. Entry for the Skate Jam competition will be open right up to the day of the event.

“I would encourage all of our region’s young people to attend one or both of these events to celebrate Youth Month and find out more about youth services in the Gin Gin community.”

Divisional representative Cr Wayne Honor said the entire Gin Gin community had gotten behind the project.

“Gin Gin State High School’s Joan Sutton, 15, and Gin Gin State Primary School’s Lachlan Jarvis, 9, made a terrific contribution to this event by helping to choose the name ‘Colour Me Happy’,” Cr Honor said.

“This name perfectly reflects the theme of the day, and indeed of Youth Month in general, which is about connecting our community and our young people through fun and engaging events. For their efforts both Joan and Lachlan have won free entry into the fun run.

“Council has also been assisted in organising this event through the support of Bendigo Bank, Got Active Fitness, Churches of Christ Care and a number of community representatives.”

The Colour Me Happy Fun Run kicks off from 8.30am on April 3. Registration for both the event is essential and closed on March 13. Entry forms can be found on our youth page, Council Service Centres the Gin Gin Library and Got Active Fitness.
